David Bertie BA FTCL Dip Mus (Open)

David Bertie was born in Ontario, Canada in 1963. After moving to England in 1970, he began his musical studies aged 11 under the tutelage of trombonist John Butt. In 1979, David joined the British Army as a musician and has recently left having completed 24 years service. His last four years service was spent at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, where he designed music courses.

David is a graduate of the Open University, a Worshipful Company of Musicians Silver Medal winner and a member of the International Trumpet Guild. He has studied trumpet and cornet performance with trumpet virtuoso John Wilbraham, John Hardy (Principal Cornet of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden) and more recently with Peter Turnbull, Principal Trumpet for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

David lives in Somerset, England and is married to Marlene. They share their house with a black-and-white cat called "Tink"; which is short for Stinky! David currently teaches trumpet at King's School in Bruton, King's Hall Preparatory School in Taunton and part-time for Somerset Music. He is the proprietor of Have Trumpet, Will Travel…, which specialises in music for wedding and funeral services.
